A few things that have helped me over the years
I’m sure we have all come across small, simple and easy things that help our lives. Here are some of mine:
1. Learn an appropriate greeting – Hopefully we all say things like good morning, pleased to meet you and how are you, without having to think twice.
I’m talking about a little something that shows a little more than just good manners.
If someone you deal with is foreign, part foreign or has a foreign partner, learn to greet them in that language. I really enjoy learning new greetings, and it really does open doors.
2. Let things go – Things will happen that make us angry – things we do, things other people do, things that happen in the world – but learn from them and don’t dwell on them. Remember they happened, but don’t dwell on it too much; its not worth letting it change your life.
3. Always be willing to learn – I’m not talking text books here – though continuous development is always important. I’m talking about our interaction with other people. I recently proofread a book and in it was a quote from Maya Angelou, that sums up this point in a nutshell.
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
