Wheelchair Access
Last week I went down to Plymouth by train. It’s the first time I have ever used one of the new Hitachi trains.
I found it much better than one of the older trains. Going to London in one of these, I was given the wheelchair space in first class. This sounded good, but there were a couple of serious drawbacks.
– The access, past the luggage racks to the wheelchair space, was too narrow for a chair. This meant I had to use the luggage rack to stand and slowly move to the wheelchair space, while someone collapsed my chair and carried it through.
– There was a toilet in first class, but this was not wheelchair accessible.
The new trains do not have these problems, a step in the right direction.
